We used to love stories that start with “once upon a time…” and end with “they lived happily ever after.” We still might. But somehow we have a greater fascination with the catastrophe before the end. Something about the possibility of a disastrous end of everything draws us in every time.
This makes for good movies. Just think of how many we have seen in recent years. Terminator, X-Men apocalypse, days of future past, World War Z, Armageddon, 2012, Day after Tomorrow. Edge of Tomorrow, Day After Tomorrow, Oblivion, Pacific Rim, Godzilla, Independence Day… OK, so you just found out how much I enjoy movies.
What does Jesus want us to know about the end of this age and His return? Join us this weekend to find out.
Apocalypse is defined as: 1. the complete final destruction of the world, especially as described in the biblical book of Revelation. OR 2. an event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale. There have been many scientific & religious speculations that point to the end of life as we know it.
Thinking about the end of things quickly turn from fascinating to frightening if we turn our attention from movies to the world we live in. Most agree that the world seems darker with each generation. The dangers keep growing. Technology is exploding and morality is evaporating at faster rates than ever before. It makes followers of Jesus wonder how long He will wait to come back and set everything straight? Are we getting close to the end?
1Thessalonians 5:1-4 Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 3 While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;
Starting this weekend, we are going what Jesus taught his followers about the end of the age? I’m NOT going to give you a timeline & chart to use while you watch the news. I’m not going to give you the date or even the decade of His return. I’m not going to cover every possible opinion and idea that has ever been taught about biblical prophecy, revelation and the end of the world. We are going to focus on Jesus longest intentional teaching about the end given to the disciples at their request just days for the crucifixion. You can find it in the book of Matthew chapters 24-25.
What does Jesus want us to know about the end of this age and His return? Join us this weekend to find out. Tomorrow, we will start where He does, general description of the beginning of the end and direction on what He wants from us while we walk through it. I really hope you can join us.
Matthew 24:1-3 Jesus came out from the temple and was going away when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. 2 And He said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.” 3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
