Embrace His Mission

It’s almost time for mid-term graduations. Most people don’t think about them unless it’s their time to finish. There is a real excitement and anticipation to put that new degree to work in the real world. There are moments like that for the follower of Jesus as well. His call to follow has a purpose mean real life impact. While we never outgrow our need to follow Him, and we never stop learning from Him, it is NOT all about the learning.

A true follower of Jesus will come to a point where they must embrace His mission as their own.

This is His aim. If this doesn’t occur then the legitimacy of our claim to be His followers is highly questionable. That was the focus of our lesson last weekend. The highlights are below. As you review, ask yourself what your ultimate mission is in life and how fully you have embraced His mission as your own. If you don’t like your answer, Grab hold of the clues below to change your direction.

BOTTOM LINE: Embrace Jesus’ Mission as Your Own.

Matthew 28:19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Jesus’ mission was seeking and saving lost people. Everything he did from teaching, to healing to the final sacrifice of Himself was designed to do this one core thing.

Jesus continues His mission through those who intentionally follow Him. While we are not Him, He lives in everyone one who trusts their life to Him and empowers their work as they follow His lead.

Keep Following Jesus to be Transformed & Trained for His Mission.

Mark 1:17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

John 15:2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.

At the front end of his invitation to follow, he previewed what was going to happen. The great commission did not come until 3 years later, yet He said fi they followed, He would change them. He would make them become fishers of men. If you aren’t’ becoming a fisher of men, your part is to get busy following Him. If you do that, He will shape you for His mission.

Specifically you do this by obeying Jesus’ word, respond to Jesus’ Spirit & Embracing the daily work Jesus assigns you as part of His larger Mission. There were hundreds of small things Jesus asked his disciples to do along the way. It was all part of His training. Don’t neglect the small things He asks of you.

Let Jesus Shine through Your Life in Every Daily Thing.

Matt 5:14 & 16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

As you are changed by Jesus, your life will begin to smell like His. Your attitude, heart responses, your language and your behavior under pressure will become more like Him. People will see Him more clearly when they see you. So just let Him out.

Three keys will help you with this. Show Jesus’ grace, share Jesus’ truth, and help others discover a deepening relationship with Jesus.

Embracing Jesus’ mission is only hard if you try to do it without following Him. There will be little joy, little fruit and lots of sweat. But if you follow you will find yourself embracing it with heart deep passion. I have never regretted following Him, won’t you join me? There is great darkness in the world that needs followers to carry them His light.

John 17:18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

John 20:21 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

Join us this coming weekend as we start a new mini- series on following Jesus AFTER a divisive election.
