The Big Reason

“It’s not how you start but how you finish that matters.” How many times have you heard that? How about this twist? “It’s not WHY you start but WHY you finish that matters.” As we grow in life our insight & motivations change, hopefully for the better.

This happens for believers in our walk with Jesus. For example I first trusted Jesus when I was only 5 years old. I believe it was a genuine and true faith, but 45 years later my faith relationship with Him is much richer and deeper.

Last Sunday we discovered that there were many reasons people began to follow Jesus when he first came. However as time went on there was only one reason they continued. They began out of curiosity, need & invitation. However, before his crucifixion more people left him than stayed with Him. Understanding why is key to knowing what it means to really follow Jesus. We find that answer in John 6.

As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” 68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. 69 We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”  John 6:66-69

While There are Many Reasons People Begin to Follow… There is a Core Reason They Continue.

Did you notice why the small group of disciples kept following? It is the same reason people persevere in following today. They believe Jesus is the son of God who alone gives eternal life. Following Jesus is the Core Expression of True Faith in Jesus. Initial curiosity must become true faith for us to become real followers. When this happens we gain everything. Jesus Gives Life to Those Who Follow Him Because They Believe in Him.

THE BIG REASON: They believe Jesus is the son of God who alone gives eternal life.

So at the beginning of this series I’d like you to ask you to ask yourself:

  • Do you follow Jesus?
  • Is there a part of life where you aren’t yet or haven’t been willing to follow?
  • What is your next step to follow Jesus more fully?
  • Do you want to?

I invite you to join us this coming weekend as we take the next step in learning what it means to follow Jesus. For more information or full recorded lessons go to www.parkviewfamily.com.
